There are over 50 sports and recreational clubs in Olten.  By the river Aare there is a large open air swimming complex with various sports fields including beach volleyball.  There is a sports stadium and athletics complex, an ice-rink and a sports airfield.  There are numerous other sports on offer: badminton, baseball, basketball, tennis, football, indoor climbing, mini-golf and so the list goes on. The FHNW also has a broad sports programme (information in German).

Within reasonable travel distance there are of course the Swiss Alps for skiing and snowboarding, or the Jura cliffs for hangliding.  There are endless possibilities for those interested in mountainbiking or trekking.

There are 6 cinema (complexes) in Olten itself and neighbouring cities offer a multitide more.  There is a city theatre at which the famous cabaret festival is held each year.  And then of course, the city and region are dotted with cafés, restaurants, bars, pubs and nightclubs.
