Executive Master of Banking and Finance
The University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland (UNW) has designed an Executive Master of Finance and Banking programme providing a broad, analytical and integrated study of business and management to meet the demands of aspiring and developing managers in the Ho Chi Minh City region. This is delivered partly 'off campus' in Vietnam with our partner organisation the HCMC Banking University in Ho Chi Minh City. The programme started in September 2006.
Learning Objectives
The Executive Master off campus in Vietnam draws upon best practice and expertise from our Institute for Finance and from a selection of other Executive Master programmes currently delivered in Switzerland.
The learning objectives are to provide professionals:
- With an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the key issues related to Finance and Banking
- Knowledge and skills to assume management tasks in large and medium sized operations faced by a complex business environment.
- Leadership qualities for being successful in a multicultural environment.
Participants Profile
Our participants are typically:
- Professionals aiming at advancing their career.
- Professionals and leaders looking for an education in Finance and Banking while still maintaining their local contacts and professional functions.
- Professionals and leaders seeking a part-time education that allows them to continue to pursue their professional tasks.
- Individuals seeking an education in Finance and Banking with a perfect mix of theory and practice.
Progression Opportunities
The program will allow managers to gather credits for completed modules and enable them to exit with postgraduate certificates and diplomas if they are unable to complete the full Executive Master programme. These separate exit awards allow students to progress to other related programs at other Institutions and for individual students to further their management careers.
To achieve this, the Executive Master is subdivided into three sequences. After successful completion of each sequence participants receive a certificate. The Diploma of Executive Master of Finance and Banking is granted when the participants have finished all three sequences.
Teaching Methods
The Executive Master emphasizes both solid theoretical foundations and practical application to provide a comprehensive understanding of the enterprise as a whole in a broad context as well as in-depth knowledge in particular domains of expertise.
Specially, the participants will learn through
- Readings and cases: giving participants ideas and a framework in which to learn. Furthermore, learning material will provide the theoretical underpinning needed by managers to critically evaluate business activities and performance and foster a critical understanding of management theory.
- Class discussion and role-play: allowing immediate feedback from classmates and coaches. This help managers to develop ability to critically analyse and evaluate management and business practice.
- Group work: presentations, teambuilding and feedback. This helps managers to develop individual ability to handle complexity in an organization.
- Corporate visits: giving the participants an insight into other companies and learning from best practice.
- Excursions in Switzerland during study trip: giving the participants an insight into Swiss culture and people as well as a view of the country’s impressive natural environment.
