Business leaders constantly face changing market conditions caused by technological advancements, globalization, sustainability pressures, and a changing workforce. To survive and prosper in a global competition, top managers need to proactively transform their core business. Transformative programmes cover, for example, business model changes, enterprise-wide IT projects, corporate transactions (such as mergers), outsourcing, and value chain optimization initiatives.

The competence center for Business Transformation Management focuses on research and practical advice for both, transformation preparation and implementation. Studies proved that many transformation projects failed to achieve the intended benefits. One of the main reasons for that low success rate was a lack of methodological knowledge on how to approach business transformation. Existing methods were not able to provide a profound basis for transformation attempts. Therefore, one of the main challenges and aims is to generate holistic knowledge on how to successfully implement transformation projects.
