  • history, where it sheds light on the present state of the country

A theme running throughout the module is a comparison between Switzerland as a developed country, and South Africa as a developing country, to see where the differences lie. Other sub-themes may be developed during the module.
Learning objectives The students

  • learn basic facts about South Africa and its geographical situation

  • understand major socio-economic issues affecting South African society and politics
  • develop an understanding of the practical (and technical) challenges facing a developing country, and its engineers
