The Academy of Art and Design Basel researches along the three focal points of visual studies, design research and artistic research/art appreciation.
Its project research is typically performed in cooperation with partners from business and practical institutions and the Swiss agencies for promoting research.

The following framework conditions apply for the projects:

KTI –  Implementation ideas and economic excellence
The Commission for Technology and Innovation (KTI) of the Federal Agency for Career Advanced and Technology (BBT) promotes market-oriented research and development and is strongly oriented toward promoting implementation-ready projects. The support of this commission and cooperation with the IDK can cut R&D costs in half.

Dore – Practically relevant questioning and scientific excellence
DoResearch DoRe of the Swiss National Funds (SNF) supports one to three-year projects conducted jointly with practical partners. DORE/SNF assumes up to 70 percent of the total costs.

Practical partners must bear at least 30% of the project costs – in the form of a financial contribution and/or payment in kind and provision of personnel. Proposals may be submitted for 1 March and 1 October.
