Bachelor of Arts
Aesthetics, usability, materiality, emotional impact, legibility, form value – The design of goods for mass production takes various factors into account and is thus a trans-disciplinary process. Students at the Institute of Industrial Design HGK in Aarau, design industrially produced mass goods and develop consumer and investment goods – creative, innovative and target-oriented.
The basic, first-year course focuses on the development of conceptual and methodological skills, both technical and manual, which enables students to work independently within the design-process, from drawing to model-making to virtual simulation, this undertaken in simple, short projects. The subsequent main course of study consists generally of project work, focusing on the implementation, practice and vision projects of varying length and complexity whereby consideration is given to individual preferences. The main objectives of a Bachelor Degree in Industrial Design include developing the ability to formulate innovation, the establishment of a personal aesthetic position, problem-oriented thinking and purposeful action in the design process.
