The HGK Library in Aarau is a specialized library with a focus on industrial design and media art. Its main task consists of the acquisition, exploration, placement and circulation of contemporary literature for teaching, research, education and training. A high priority is given to support of individual users of the library. The library also helps in finding and obtaining documents from other libraries or document delivery services. The library is part of the NEBIS Network, the network of Swiss Academic Libraries and Information Centers, and thus is accessible to users in and outside the Institute. To borrow library materials a valid NEBIS Holder card is required.
Inventory
The library stock of open access includes more than 6500 items (books, videotapes, DVDs and CDs) and about 75 journals. Also available are online databases and e-journals of the Consortium of Academic Libraries. All media resources are available in the online NEBIS catalogue. Non-books, some computer science books, magazines and media from handsets are only loaned within the school. Reference works, handbooks, and color selector can be viewed or used in the reading room.
Study places and infrastructure
The library has several study places and two Windows-based computer stations with Internet access, additional connections for laptops are available. In a small adjoining room, video players for VHS and DVD are available. In addition, there is a colour scanner. The copy machine can be used with a school's copy card, which is available from the Secretary for CHF 10 - (100 A4 copies).
