Katie Taylor (1973) originally trained in Wellington, New Zealand. The school had a strong association with the Basel School of Design and a lecturer exchange program ensured a steady stream of international ex-Basel practitioners coming through the school culminating with a visit from Wolfgang Weingart in the early 90’s . After graduation and a few experimental years of professional practice at small agencies throughout New Zealand, the Middle East and London, she followed a long-sustained dream and accepted a place in Basel where she combined a curiousity for the old-school methods of the Gewerbeschule days with the contemporary hgk program. Since leaving Basel in 2003 she has worked at many renowned London studios, including una Designers, Landor and bb/Saunders, picking up a good number of international awards along the way. Her work always has a brand focus which she finds provides the greatest flexibility and a constant array of stimulating creative challenges – whether global superbrands such as bp and Nokia or specialist brands such as Bournemouth University and Cred Jewellery. Katie is currently Creative Director at Greenspace in London. Her successful leadership of Toyota’s two-year long rebrand project has resulted in Greenspace’s appointment as European ‹brand guardian› for Toyota. She is currently creating the brand for the avant-garde architectural practice Zaha Hadid Architect.
