Activities of Emmanuel Oertlé
Working in the Sustainable Resources Management group at the Institute for Ecopreneurship (IEC) involves
cooperating in projects generally related to resources management and
Cleaner Production, using several tools and models. Many projects
involve cooperation with developing and emerging countries and the
position involves following activities:
- Conduction of different applied research projects, for example :
- Projects with different international partners
- Environmental audits in Swiss and international industries based on Cleaner Production (CP) methodologies (UNIDO)
- Lectures, seminar, practical work and supervision of student
projects (master thesis), for example: agro-industrial waste
valorisation, water loss reduction, life cycle analysis (LCA), Cleaner
Production
- International missions, for example : conferences, organisation
of trainings and stakeholder dialogues, audits, situation analysis,
field studies and data collection
- Project proposal preparation and diverse activities
The Sustainable Resources Management Group
The Sustainable Resources Management
Group offers research and services in resource management, industrial
ecology, integrated product policy (IPP), process engineering and
optimization mostly combined with knowledge transfer, awareness and
capacity building nationally and internationally. In the areas of
integrated product policy and industrial ecology, preventive strategies
and measures as well as innovative processes for closing material cycles
and reducing emissions are developed.

Research Fields
- Water resources and river basin management
- Industrial ecology and integrated product policy (IPP)
- Cleaner Production (CP) - Eco-efficiency in the industrial and service sector
- Waste and resource management
- Management and decision support tools, e.g. Life Cycle
Assessments (LCAs) and Material Flow Analysis as instruments for
implementing a sustainable resource management
- Cooperation with emerging and developing countries
- Knowledge transfer in applied sciences and capacity building
