Make / Sense

30.11.2021 | Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst

MAKE/SENSE PhD programme warmly invites you to join us for the second public lecture this semester and follow our workshop and presentations online/offline.

The MAKE/SENSE PhD programme offers a structured curriculum for doctoral candidates that engage with practice-based research. We gather for lectures, workshops, presentations and round-table discussions to work on research and artistic methods, develop writing skills and engage with contemporary theory. The public-facing activities are a great way to get in touch and learn about interests and discussions hosted in the programme.

During the fall semester 2021, our PhD candidates work with Joana Moll, our first artistic researcher in residence on the topic of "The Art of Organizing". In her artistic work, Joana Moll critically explores the way techno-capitalist narratives affect the alphabetization of machines, humans and ecosystems. At the second public lecture of the semester, Joana Moll will introduce her ongoing project Inanimate Species: from geopolitics and materiality of microprocessors to the role of insects in the ecosystems and anthropocentric mass vs. organic mass, among others.

She will also present the latest developments of the project, especially those related to taxonomic classification of living and non-living beings. The lecture is taking place on Wednesday, December 8 at 6pm at Studiokino, as well as online via vimeo.com/646895306

During the intensive meetings in December, we will hold two more events that are open to interested participants outside of the programme:

We are happy to announce the round-table discussion with Prof. Claudia Perren, director of HGK FHNW and Make/Sense PhD candidates, on "Planetarity, Materiality and Response-ability" as areas of concern. The discussion will take place on Thursday, December 2 at 1pm at the Critical Media Lab.

The following day, we will explore Experimental Taxonomies with Joana Moll, who will offer a workshop open to all PhD candidates. To register for the workshop, write an email to c2VsZW5hLnNhdmljQGZod24uY2g=.
