Svetlana Maraš wird Professorin für kreative Musiktechnologie und Co-Leiterin des Elektronischen Studios Basel

Wir sind sehr glücklich, dass die junge Serbin, welche an der Schnittstelle von experimenteller Musik, Klangkunst und neuen Medien arbeitet, Teil unseres sonic space basel-Teams wird. Gemeinsam mit Volker Böhm wird sie das Elektronische Studio Basel leiten.

Svetlana Maraš studierte an der Aalto Universität (Helsinki), wo sie auch Forschungsassistentin war, und bildete sich bei renommierten Institutionen weiter, wie am Bang on a Can Summer Institute (MASSMoCA), der Columbia University - School of the Arts, der Sommerakademie Mozarteum, der KlangKunstBühne an der UdK (Berlin), der Berklee Summer School oder den Internationalen Ferienkursen Darmstadt.
2013 wurde sie mit dem Vitomir Bogić Preis von Radio Belgrad als beste junge radiophone Komponistin ausgezeichnet. Ihre Komposition Dirty thoughts wurde 2016 beim International Rostrum of composers in Wroclaw empfohlen, und ihr Stück Jezik, ein Auftragswerk des ORF, kam in die engere Wahl für den Prix Italia.
Svetlana Maraš ist Composer in Residence und künstlerische Leiterin des Elektronischen Studios von Radio Belgrad. Sie gibt oft Workshops und Masterclasses über Programmierung und neue Musiktechnologie für Kinder und Erwachsene und hält Vorträge zu Themen der experimentellen Musik und Klangkunst.

Svetlana Maraš (1985) is composer and sound artist from Serbia. She works at the intersection of experimental music, sound art and new media. Graduated at the renowned Aalto University (Helsinki) where she worked as a research assistant, she also received training at places like Bang on a Can Summer Institute (MASSMoCA), Columbia University - School of the Arts, Mozarteum Summer Academy, KlangKunstBühne at UdK (Berlin), The Berklee Summer School, Darmstadt International Summer Course and many other places.

Maraš presented her work internationally, at venues, festivals and events such as CTM (Berlin), Ars Electronica (Linz), House of Electronic Arts - HEK (Basel), Espace Multimedia Gantner (Bourgogne), Onassis Cultural Centre (Athens), Museum of Contemporary Art (Belgrade), Ausland (Berlin), Izlog Suvremenog Zvuka (Zagreb), ICMC (New York), International Rostrum of Composers (Wroclaw), ISEA (Dubai), International Music Institute (Darmstadt), Orpheus Institute (Ghent). Her music has been featured on national radios of Austria, Australia, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, Ireland, Croatia, Slovenia and many other countries.

Maraš was awarded Vitomir Bogić prize by Radio Belgrade in 2013, for best, young radiophonic composer. Her composition Dirty thoughts was recommended work at the International Rostrum of composers in Wroclaw in 2016, and her piece Jezik, commissioned by ORF was shortlisted for Prix Italia award. Maraš was a jury member for Media Art Prize at Bauhaus University in 2017 and keynote speaker at Audio paper symposium at Inter Arts Center in Malmo in 2018. Her article “Thingification of compositional process - emergence and autonomy of extra-musical object in Western Art Music” was published as a book chapter in 2017.

Maraš often gives workshops and masterclasses on programming and new music technology for kids and adults, and she lectures on topics related to experimental music and sound art. She is co-curator of the 4fakultät series in Hamburg.

As composer in residence and artistic director of Radio Belgrade’s Electronic Studio since 2016, she has initiated various projects and activities such as EMS Synthi 100 restoration, artist residencies and educational programs.
