Modulbeschreibung - Electrical Power Engineering 2
(Elektrische Energietechnik 2)

Nummer
eet2
ECTS 3.0
Level advanced
Overview For many years the generation of electrical energy in Europe has been undergoing a massive change. Switzerland is following this trend with the Energy Strategy 2050. The consequence: The electric grid is operated near its limits, and new problems have to be mastered in transmission and distribution. The students get a deep knowledge about the effects of distributed generation and new solutions. Secondary technology is one key to understand the „smart energy“.

  • Central and decentralized generation
  • Dielectric strength, breakdown phenomena of materials
  • Switchgear and switchyard
  • Test techniques
  • Power station control
  • Protection
Learning objectives The students are able to solve engineering problems in the field of energy distribution, switchgear, test techniques and secondary technology. If needed, they are able to acquire additional knowledge on their own. They know the influence of fluctuating, centralized and decentralized generation on the transmission and distribution grid, resulting problems and challenges, and possible solutions. They understand the principle of switchgear devices and the tradeoff between grid availability and prize of different switchyard topologies. The students have a good overview of secondary technology and understand basic protection principles and power control.
