Content Innovation can be understood as the successful implementation of new solutions to extant (e.g., social) problems. It is central to the longer-term survival of organizations. Accordingly, innovation management - i.e., the target-oriented planning, implementation, and control of the innovation process - is of central importance.

In this competence, students acquire a basic understanding of innovation and innovation management. Against this backdrop, students acquire knowledge of established innovation methods and tools and apply these methods to develop a new product. In addition, this competence addresses how digitalization is changing the conditions, dynamics, and management of innovation and which new tools, including "data science", are becoming available.
Learning outcomes Applying innovation methods to develop new (digital) products
  • Students understand the importance of innovation and innovation management for day-to-day business activities.
  • Students know important innovation methods and tools as well as their areas of application.
  • Students apply relevant innovation methods and tools (e.g., Design Thinking) to develop a new (digital) product.

Enhancing innovation methods with "Data Science" tools
  • Students can critically examine innovation methods (e.g., advantages and disadvantages).
  • Students can conceptually enhance an innovation method with "data science" tools.
