Early music

The Master of Arts in Musical Performance programme offered by the FHNW Schola Cantorum Basiliensis aims to produce musicians with outstanding instrumental/vocal proficiency and fluency who are also capable of performing to the highest standards as both a soloist and ensemble musician. Theory and history classes equip students with the foundations necessary to engage with Early Music in a reflective manner. Students will be required to demonstrate this ability in a Master’s thesis.

Jazz

Whether at work, in the studio or on stage, modern technologies are an inescapable presence in the world of professional music and play an increasingly prominent role in the creative process. For many musicians, the boundaries between instrumentation, composition and production have become blurred; a fusion between the acoustic and the electronic occurs. The Jazz major is designed around a joined-up approach that motivates students to achieve the highest artistic standards and allows them to tailor their studies to their particular abilities and personal goals. The programme is excellent preparation for a career in this wide-ranging discipline.
