Scenarios SUPSI (IFeL)

Scenario 1Scenario 2Scenario 3Scenario 4
Scenario 5Scenario 6

Scenario 1 (study phase) –> See Requirements

R1 collaborative work on the same document
R2 Login with same data as the other school sites
R3 The developed solution can be submitted directly into the Moodle course, and even at a later stage will still be available (on the platform “idea”).

Calvin, Pinky, Brain and Hobbes are participating in the course, “knowledge management” in an online group exercise. They have to develop an innovation idea jointly. This should be submitted in their Moodle course at the appropriate assignment.
Calvin logs on the “thoughts” platform of the school, in the existing course “knowledge management” and adds a new group called “Best Buddies”. Then he adds the other 3 group members. He creates a document in which he describes how they will split the work among them and another document in which they will do the actual work. The other participants have the same rights as Calvin; they can create and edit documents.
They separately dive into the work and add the latest texts elaborated on in the working document. When they are finished, Pinky creates a view/site with the documents, the hyperlinks, resources, and all other materials that they have used to accomplish their task. This can be submitted as their group solution in the Moodle course.

Scenario 2 (post-study phase) –> See Requirements

R4 location-independent team work
R5 collaborative graphic work on the platform “thoughts”
R6 version management (History)
R7 possibility of a supervisory participation in a project with other people

Lisa and Jürg work at the Open University of Applied Sciences Switzerland. They work in the department main service, and are in charge of communication. Lisa has her office in Zurich, Jürg his in Brig. Together they work on a project until mid-year, a new communication concept for the entire school.
Jürg goes to the “thoughts” platform of the school, where he opens a new project. He also adds Lisa to the project. They arrange to meet the next day to develop a joint first graphic project outline (a mind map). The next day, they simultaneously log in to the platform, go to the project and start the “Meeting”. Over headsets they can talk to each other. Lisa opens a new worksheet in the project and together they begin creating a mind map. Both have at all times the possibility to create new items on the worksheet, they can delete, modify or edit. After some time, they have created an initial project proposal online.
Lisa continues to work on the existing project proposal the following day. Jürg is unable to attend. But he goes a few days later on the platform to see what Lisa has done. Because the changes performed on the worksheet are continuously recorded by the system, Jürg can now follow these changes in a short “film”. Jürg sees in chronological order, what Lisa added to the project outline, changed or deleted in the meantime. Jürg himself now continues to work on the current project proposal.
Lisa and Jürg want to show their project outline their boss Norbert. Jürg adds Norbert to their project team on the platform. Norbert has the option to view the project proposal on the platform – what he does immediately.

Scenario 3 (study phase) –> See Requirements

R8 Dropbox for Moodle
R2 no additional login required
R9 messaging functions: * about File Sharing Folder * the sticky note can be made in various forms: as a text, an audio, a video et cetera

Max, Klaus and Simone study in the same course at the Swiss Distance University of Applied Sciences. The three work in the module “object-oriented programming” in a joint project that lasts two semesters. Since they still have a fair bit of work to do, they decide, during the coming semester break to work on the module. Klaus has already booked a vacation in India, but needs to work from there on the project. He doesn’t know whether he will always have internet access in India and therefore access to the shared project folder on the “Thoughts” platform of the school. Klaus therefore creates on the “Thoughts” platform, under his profile a new personal working folder. He adds Max and Simone to this folder. When creating the folder on the platform, it was also created automatically in the file system the personal computers of the group. From now on, every time they log on to the “Thoughts” platform, the folders on the platform and the folder on the computer are automatically synchronized. All their project documents, the three put from now on in their new project folder on the platform.
Klaus is now in India. He logs in from there on the “thoughts” platform of the school and thus has the most current version of the project folder on his computer. Over the next two days, this will probably not be possible since he will not be online again. He surveys the current state of the project in the project folder and leaves a message in form of a sticky note for Max and Simone, what on the project he will be working on in the next two days.

Scenario 4 (study phase) –> See Requirements

R10 Personalized web portal which allows further access to additional ser-vices
R11 categories private, work, study with the platforms and tolls to each need
R12 Easy generating of mailing lists

Egon is a real computer and Internet enthusiast. He carries his notebook almost everywhere with him. Right now he spends his lunch break in the cafeteria and wants to go quickly online. For this he logs in as always on the online platform “OneWeb”. Immediately there appears his personalized, for him fitted “OneWeb” page – Egon’s gateway to his online life.
On this page, he immediately recognizes that he received two new emails. He also sees there that Eva sent him a chat message via Skype. But all this must wait briefly, because Egon wants to post a message in a forum in Moodle (LMS). To this end, he clicks on his “OneWeb” page on the Moodle icon – and he’s already been logged on Moodle and the Moodle starting page has been displayed. He posts as he intended the message and returns by clicking the corresponding icon in the browser to his “OneWeb” page. Then he clicks on the Facebook icon: Facebook is quickly opened and he checks the news on his account – all without further login. Back again to “OneWeb” Egon answers now, as planned, the two new emails.
He also writes an e-mail invitation to his birthday party to all his teammates from sport. The mailing list for this he can generate from his “OneWeb” contacts. Finally, by clicking on the Skype icon he can give Eva a response. Egon logs out “OneWeb” because once again, duty calls.

Scenario 5 (study/post-study phase) –> See Requirements

R13 course vs. student centred design (Moodle vs. Mahara)
R14 easy searching and arranging of materials

Michael is studying in the eighth semester at the Swiss Distance University of Applied Sciences. There, the online learning platform “Moodle” is used for supporting teaching. Michael accesses Moodle almost daily from home. After logging in, he sees all his current courses on his personal Moodle start page. Even today, Michael goes on Moodle and solves there a task his professor has provided in the course “Innovation Management”.
Since Michael is nearing completion of his studies, he now also deals in detail with the search for a new, appropriate job. Therefore, he wants to create an access-protected online site where he can assemble his documented skills for presenting them to potential employers. He does this by using the online platform “MyPortfolio”, which is supported by the Swiss Distance University of Applied Sciences too. So Michael logs in to MyPortfolio and creates there a new view (i.e. a page) named “Michael Meier’s skills”. On this page, he wants to place all his previous written term papers as well as his certificates. All documents, he has created or used in his studies so far, are stored on MyPortfolio. By using the search function, Michael looks for the documents in question in the courses he attended. With the keyword “term paper”, he quickly finds the seven corresponding documents. He adds them to his new view. Michael also adds the certificates of his studies in this way. As his former employer is supporting MyPortfolio too, he can now also put his last job reference to the site. A few days later, Michael writes a first job application. Thereby, he places the link to his recently created MyPortfolio site in his electronic CV. Nils Holgersson, the addressed HR manager, uses this link to get to Michael’s designed page. Of course, Mr Holgersson has no access to the other MyPortfolio pages Michael has created so far, for example the one coordinating his bachelor thesis with the external project partner.

Scenario 6 (study phase) –> See Requirements

R15 Storage of data on local servers due to national and institutional laws
R16 storage solution should implement these concerns privacy, compliance, legal issues, security and sustainability
R17 login only on the initialisation of the account online and then once after installing the standalones
R18 customised read/edit right for the stored documents

Patrick Bateman is a 4 year economics student and is about to start writing his bachelor thesis at the university. Since he has been working at a bank doing an internship and he will continue this after his graduation, the bank offered him to write his thesis about a project of the bank. The economics department at his university accepted his disposition, so he can begin working on it.
Because of his need to have access to his documents from different networks and devices and be able to share them with his thesis advisor, Patrick asks the university e-learning helpdesk for help. He cannot use common cloud solutions because he is not allowed to store bank documents on alien servers and he also cannot use the bank cloud solution because he cannot add his thesis advisor to the user list. The university offers him the possibility to use the just launched services ShareBOX.
His concerns about privacy, compliance, legal issues, security and sustainability are all taken care of in this solution and even license questions are solved. The user has to log in with his university login on the online version to create his account. There he has his own dedicated storage space that he can manage as he wants. After initialising his account he can install on all his devices the standalone software/application of the solution. He can share the content with different users that he determines and since the servers are located in Switzerland and implement a strict legal and technical security he can upload his bank documents on it. ShareBOX also offers a versioning and an archive function.
Now Patrick starts working on his thesis without any obstacle. He uploads any document he wants to the cloud and his advisor, as he is not the owner of the ShareBox, has only editing right to the documents.
