Data is the new raw material of our economy. As a data scientist, you can distil relevant knowledge from the growing volume of data and recognize patterns and identify anomalies. Data Scientists create the basis for drawing the right conclusions from existing data.

Studies

Our highly qualified, experienced lecturers will help you to acquire the basics of data science, such as machine learning, language processing, data preparation, data visualization, statistics and linear algebra. The lecturers and your navigate! will also support you in your learning path at any time.

In addition to technical skills, you will also learn to work in projects in transdisciplinary teams and to communicate with other specialist groups, such as research, marketing or production.

In the BSc Data Science programme we say goodbye to lectures and embrace hands-on learning. Instead of attending lectures, you will get access to our online library with learning videos, texts and assignments to acquire the knowledge of a Data Scientist. As a self-directed learner, you decide when you learn - At home or on campus? Morning person or night owl? It doesn’t matter to us!

It is essential to us (and your future employer) that you not only acquire, but also apply this knowledge. That's why, from the first semester onwards, you will transfer the knowledge you have gained directly to practical problems and interdisciplinary group projects. Our highly qualified lecturers with practical experience will coach you and give you valuable feedback.

Even though learning this way is fun, it can be challenging as well, but don’t worry, your personal coach will be there to help you. He/she will help you deal with new situations and reflect on learning progress and challenges.

Language skills
Study languages are German and English: the majority of modules are conducted in German, some in English. Module learning materials are in German and/or English.
If German is not your mother tongue and you do not have a German-language school-leaving certificate, you will need a certified German level C1. Goethe-Institut and TELC Hochschule certificates are accepted. In English, the minimum requirement for studying at the School of Engineering is an English level B1, but we recommend an English level of B2 in this degree programme. An English placement test is taken before the start of the semester. If you are placed lower than B2, you will need to attend English coaching.
