Profil von Stella Gatziu Grivas

Stella Gatziu Grivas received her PhD from the University of Zurich in the area of active databases under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Klaus Dittrich. Her work in the project SAMOS focused on an extensive event language and on a mechanism for complex event detection. SAMOS was one of the first open source active database systems offering complex event processing. After the completion of her PhD, Stella stayed at the Group of Klaus Dittrich as a senior assistant. She worked on a framework for constructing active mechanisms unbundled from the database system. She also initiated the work in data warehousing with focus on the incremental refreshment of a data warehouse. She was project leader for a KTI-funded project in workflow management.

After that Stella moved to Credit Suisse as a senior consultant for IT Strategy. She gained practical experience on technology management and on how to bring technology innovation in a company.

Since August 2007 is a full professor at the institute of information systems at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern of Switzerland and the head of the Competence Center Cloud Computing ( She is a lecturer in the bachelor and master studies for databases, innovation management, data warehousing and cloud computing. Stella is the dean of the CAS IT Management and of the MAS Business Information Systems.

Stella's current research interests are in the area of cloud computing including

- frameworks and tools in the Cloud Life Cycle supporting the successful usage of cloud computing

- the design and build of a Dynamic Cloud Computing based event processing Service for smart application domains (with focus in smart grid and smart cities)
