Centre for Reading, Writing and Media
Research and development of a variety of language development activities
The Centre for Reading, Writing and Media focuses on research into reading, writing and media at the Institute for Educational Research and Development, part of the School for Teacher Education FHNW. Activities undertaken at the Centre have as their aim to provide children, young people and adults with support in the following areas:
- Improving language skills,
- Deepening the emotional access to language, and
- Expanding the range of everyday linguistic activities.
To that end, research projects are conducted at the Centre for Reading, Writing and Media whose contents are at the interface between education, language and the acquisition of language. The research undertaken at the Centre embraces collaboration with national and international partners and is centred – from a technical and education policy standpoint – on core themes such as the effectiveness of teaching, educational standards and so forth.
At the same time, the results of the research are leveraged for practical implementation through the creation of models and materials designed to develop language. In this connection, the centre offers opportunities for the continuing education of teachers, services in the realm of school development, and research-driven teaching resource development.
Specialists in research and tuition work in close partnership with each other on well-grounded research as well as science-based didactics.
