Selection Process

To apply for an exchange place, there are some requirements that need to be fulfilled in order to become eligible to participate in our selection process.

Students wishing to study abroad as free movers need not apply during the selection process. However, there are still some steps that need to be formalized before you can go abroad as a free mover. More information on our free mover info page.

Please read all these points thoroughly before applying.

Students who wish to go abroad must:

  • Attend the International Afternoon
  • Research their potential partner universities

Once you apply for an exchange and are assigned a place, it is no longer possible to cancel the place. As well, no application is possible if you resign your place (exception: unforeseen emergency correctly documented).

Different degree programmes send students abroad during different times of the studies. Please consult the Study Abroad Manual for further details.

Within the exchange programme framework at the School of Business FHNW, students can be placed at a partner university at no tuition cost for 1 semester only.

Students who wish to stay abroad for 2 semesters are not able to apply for an additional partner university place. In this case, the student would have to pay tuition fees and get the approval of the head of the degree programme.

Students wishing to go to some destinations have to provide proof of language skills as necessary.
