Our security lab is dedicated to advancing the frontiers of cybersecurity through cutting-edge research, innovative vulnerability detection, and comprehensive security testing.
Mission
The FHNW Security Lab works where attack and defence meet. We probe software and network protocols for the flaws that break trust, and we build the methods, tools and hardened designs that close them again.
That work now extends to large language models on both sides: using them to detect and reason about vulnerabilities at scale, and securing the models and agentic systems that a growing share of critical infrastructure depends on.
We publish what we find, build tools others can use, and train the security engineers who will keep doing it after us.
Shared Values
Curiosity is our default setting. We want to know how a system really works — not how the documentation says it works.
That curiosity runs in three directions: what a system does, what else it can be made to do far beyond its intended purpose, and where it quietly breaks. We take no security guarantee at face value — a claim is only as good as the evidence behind it, so we go looking for that evidence ourselves.
And we say plainly what we find, even when the answer is inconvenient. Curiosity without honesty is just entertainment.
