      Zielsetzung
      Sub-module 'Jobs'(Winter Semester) At the end of this sub-module students possess professional-caliber documentation in English with which they can confidently apply for BIS-relevant positions both at home (in the case of international companies based in Switzerland) or abroad. Sub-module 'Key Issues in Business' (Summer Semester) At the end of this sub-module students can read texts on current key business issues and with minimal preparation time competently discuss the issues with others.

      Sub-module 'Jobs'(Winter Semester) In a BIS content - determination of career target(s) - analysis of overseas job market - dealing with official forms / information - layout and presentation of curriculum vitae / resumes - Intercultural variation in CV's (Anglo-Saxon vs. CH) - layout and language of covering letters / letters of application - Genre analysis of letters of application - tailoring applications to job descriptions - preparation of professional documentation to apply for positions - dealing with follow-ups - interview techniques and practice Sub-module 'Key Issues in Business' (Summer Semester) This module will not limit itself to the BIS area but will deal with current key business issues on topics such as - ethics - the environment - society at large - cross-cultural issues - motivation - psychology - teamwork - leadership - communication

      - dictionaries in book or electronic form (see 'Study Tips') - PC laptop not obligatory but very strongly recommended - printouts (students' own printouts) of on-line / e-mailed material as necessary / indicated - in rare cases, handouts

      In-Module Assessment 40% Type: written (individual) Task to prove competency, based on sub-module 'Jobs' In a BIS context, in reply to an authentic, current, relevant job advertisement (also to be submitted, with verifiable source and date), candidates submit a CV and a covering letter of application. Length: - Aids: anything available in book, electronic form lecturer's help up to a certain point and cut-off date, after which the candidate is expected to produce the documentation alone Module Examination 60% Type: oral (group, with individual grade) Task to prove competency, based on sub-module 'Key Issues in Business' 30 minutes preparation time (each candidate prepares alone / no discussion with group partners) during which the candidates read a given text and prepare for a discussion group discussion of text / issue at hand, showing comprehension of topic in English and ability to discuss it competently in English. Length: preparation time: 30 minutes examination time: max. 45 minutes per group (dep. on number in group) Aids: during preparation, dictionaries, in book and electronic form (including on-line)
