Module description - How Stuff Works (Technical Elective)

Overview How Stuff Works will help students transform their instructional ideas into engaging online content, which is becoming a must-have skill in our digitized and globalized world. Not only will students explore the essentials of describing a process in writing, but transforming that process to video by using a large toolkit for effective meaning-making: linguistic, visual, aural, and kinesthetic. The module will thus enable students to write for a digital audience and use that to compose an effective instructional video.
Learning objectives Students will:

  • learn the essentials of structured process writing
  • learn to write for a digital audience and create an instructional video
  • continue to develop language needed to explain how something works, in a scientific and engaging way
  • learn how to create effective outlines and storyboards
  • build skills such as multimodal and digital literacy, which are becoming essential means of communicating in our connected world
  • collaborate with fellow students to flesh out your ideas
  • find their own voice in English to create engaging digital content
  • learn to write for an online audience and to achieve rhetorical aims
Previous knowledge Entry based on placement test or successful completion of ten2.
Language level C1 or above.
