Module description - Design Thinking for Data Scientists
(Design Thinking für Data Scientists)

Number
dtds
ECTS 2.0
Level basic
Content Innovation is understood as the successful development and implementation of new solutions to complex (social, economic, etc.) problems. It is central to the longer-term survival of organizations and society.
Based on an established innovation method, the participants work through basic phases of an innovation process in small teams. In doing so, they apply important tools from the field of design thinking (empathy mapping, etc.) in order to analyze customer problems and needs in depth and systematically (using ethnographic methods, among others) as well as to iteratively develop prototypes of novel products (using rapid prototyping, among others). In addition, the participants use "Data Science" tools to further develop the "Design Thinking" approach in their projects.
Learning outcomes Apply design thinking to develop new digital products and services
  • Students understand key characteristics of innovation projects.
  • Students understand important concepts and tools of the "Design Thinking" approach as well as their areas of application.
  • Students can practically apply the "Design Thinking" method to develop new digital products.

  • Further develop Design Thinking with "Data Science" tools
