Application deadline: 15.02.2021
Start of studies: autumn semester 2021/22 | september 2021
The application deadline for the Bachelor’s study programme Visual Communication at the FHNW Academy of Art and Design for the autumn semester 2021/22 expired on 15.02.2021. After this deadline we cannot accept any further applications.
The new application form for studies from autumn 2022/23 will be available here in october 2021.
Dear applicant
Thank you for your interest in the Bachelor’s degree programme of Visual Communication at the FHNW Academy of Art and Design in Basel.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, we are compelled this year, too, to conduct the aptitude tests in a completely virtual manner. That’s why there will, once again, be no on-site aptitude interviews / portfolio presentations at our institute.
Accordingly, you shall have to submit your portfolio as a digital document. Therefore, it will not be possible to send your workbook / portfolio by regular post or hand it in on site in an analogue form.
Digital Portfolio
Please submit your portfolio (1 document) digitally, as a Adobe PDF file.
Compile your digital portfolio with a degree in Visual Communication in mind.
We are interested in: undergraduate studies, research, experiments, applied and free projects from preparatory courses, propaedeutics, internships, professional work, leisure activities, and schools you attended. However, only include relevant work and limit yourself to a maximum of 8 to 12 projects.
When compiling your portfolio, try to see it from the point of view of the jury members, who will receive about 100 portfolios for review.
Attest with your signature on the last page that all work thus submitted is wholly or partially your own.
Motivation Video
Please create a digital motivation video of no more than one minute (60 seconds), which will serve as a substitute for the aptitude interview. The video may be made with either a smartphone or a webcam.
The following data formats can be read by us: mov / mp4.
Some questions to serve as a guide for your motivation video:
What is your design education to date? Why are you interested in studying visual communication? Who or what inspires you in your design work? What aspect of your previous education is particularly important to you? Which project in your portfolio is particularly important to you and why? Why did you choose Basel as a location for your studies?
Important Notes
Save the portfolio (1 document) and motivation video (1 document) in a folder labelled with your family name, given name. Then compress the folder as a zip file.
You will receive all further details and the link for submitting the zip file in due time from us by e-mail. Please make sure that your e-mail account has enough free memory throughout the whole process, and regularly consult your e-mail inbox.
We are aware and regret that the virtual process renders certain quality aspects of some work less readily perceivable. But let’s make the best of it – in everyone’s interest health simply comes first.
Dates:
Until March 18th, 2021, at 12 noon
Part I – submission of the motivation video and digital portfolio.
You will be e-mailed the link for submission in due course.
March 23rd – March 26th, 2021
