Masterstudio Experimental Design

Masterstudio Experimental Design offers a master’s degree spanning three semesters in which students with different backgrounds develop individual or group projects that deal with social, political, economic and environmental issues. The goal of the Masterstudio Experimental Design programme is to change, hack, manipulate, reimagine and design in an experimental way the processes that define our lives together. Different forms of expression and publishing tactics are expressly desired: from print and digital media to code, film, video, performances, texts and much more. Whether it is dialogical, discursive, informative, speculative and/or provocative work, for us, the results are not the only thing that count: the why, how and what do, too.

Experimental Design means developing an autonomous, research-driven design practice, which has a direct impact on different areas of social life. A post-disciplinary approach aids in identifying and exploring new fields of design. The program’s tutors, researchers from HyperWerk and the Critical Media Lab, and external experts accompany and inform the students’ practice-led project work.

As a member of the Masterstudio Experimental Design, you will design collective experiments and develop exemplary scenarios, speculative models, and radical proposals for societies and worlds in transition.
