Medical technology combines technical knowledge and methods with the expertise of doctors and health professionals. Diagnostic and therapeutic technologies are developed for this purpose, including innovative analysis and measurement techniques, processing physiological signals, imaging techniques, biomechanics, manufacturing techniques for implants and processing complex medical data.

Current fields of research include operating techniques that are becoming less and less invasive thanks to modern technical medical procedures and that support surgeons by means of computer-aided navigation. Other specialisms include the development of patient-specific implants produced using 3D printing techniques and the production of functional materials and surfaces for implants and surgical tools.
