12/2025: Tartinians in Milan

The Basel Tartinians team participated in the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) international seminar held in Milan and organised by Cristina Scuderi, with the collaboration of the Graz team (Elisabetta Forlani and Nora Eder). The seminar, entitled “The Violin Schools in Eighteenth-Century Europe”, brought together participants from the universities of Augsburg, Graz, and Warsaw.
The workshop featured a rich programme of presentations and lectures by the different groups involved. Guest participants, students, and scholars had the opportunity to engage in lively discussions on a wide range of topics related to eighteenth-century violin schools, while we were able to share our ongoing research. Our contributions addressed Tartini’s didactic thought from complementary perspectives, ranging from the terzo suono and compositional pedagogy to the transmission of his didactic texts, the development of a technical glossary, and the challenges of the digital edition currently in preparation.
The seminar proved to be a highly rewarding experience, marked by stimulating exchanges and moments of mutual learning. We also enjoyed the cultural programme organised for the occasion, which included visits to the library of the Conservatorio di Musica “Giuseppe Verdi” di Milano and to the Museo degli Strumenti Musicali at the Castello Sforzesco. A fitting way to conclude the first months of work on the project.
