Public Lectures: ECAM Graduate School: Agnes Meyer-Brandis

ECAM Graduate School presents two lectures curated by Dr. Selena Savic about 'Planetary Exaggerations'

Taking a turn from rhetoric of crisis, I propose exaggeration as a 'healing' strategy, an experimental approach to thinking at planetary scales. Exaggeration is a proposal to find the measure of activity. With the interest in translation between practice and theory, I propose to think exaggeration in different aspects of planetary gestures. We might not be able to simply cease our activity on Earth in order to 'save' it. Taking recent philosophical trends, such as new materialism or object oriented ontology heads-on, we ought to be inventive with methods, but not necessarily methodical. How can we affirm practice before it is banalised in the epistemological entrenchments and used simply to support or (existing) theory? Perhaps by exaggerating in both, or many, directions we can locate methods and measures that inform individual research work.
