Radical presence – Radical presents
What does it mean to be radically (in the) present? How can we re-value commitment and labour, focus on process instead of products? How can we unsettle institutional coordinates and geometries, to transcend the boundaries of the institution? And what does it mean to grapple with the institutional unconscious?
Lucie Kolb (IXDM), Laure Pregger (Hyperwerk), Cheyenne Oswald (Art Institute), and Tena Kelemen (ECAM) will engage Laurence Rassel, director of erg (école de recherche graphique - école supérieure des arts, Brussels) in a discussion on what it means to study, teach and research and how we can rethink institutions from within (moderated by Johannes Bruder).
Laurence Rassel (BE) is a curator, teacher, organizer currently based in Brussels. From 2008 to 2015 she was Director of Fundació Antoni Tàpies, Barcelona, an institution created in 1984 by the artist Antoni Tàpies to promote the study and knowledge of modern and contemporary art. From 1997 to 2008, Rassel was member of Constant, a non-profit association and interdisciplinary arts-lab based and active in Brussels in the fields of art, media and technology. She is a founding member of the recently minted European Forum for Advanced Practices and co-leader of the working group “Strategies” (advancedpractices.net).
