Terrain 055: Mike Watson
Under the title "Culture for All: How the Dream became a Nightmare and What to do About It" Mike Watson presents a talk on how the dream of culture for everyone has been realised, but not as we hope it would.
Looking at avant garde art, memes and conspiracy theory, it will be argued that great potential still exists in online culture, if we slow down its pace and make it our own as ‘Digital Flaneurs’.
Mike Watson (PhD Goldsmiths College) is a theorist and curator who focuses on the link between culture and politics. He has written for Artforum, Frieze, Jacobin and Radical Philosophy, and has curated at the Venice Biennale and Manifesta. In 2019 he published the book, Can the Left Learn to Meme?
