Module description
- Mechanics
(Mechanik (SG W))
Number |
mechW
|
ECTS | 3.0 |
Aspiration level | K1 - K4 Knowledge, comprehension, application and analysis of mechanical systems |
Learning objectives | The students know the elementary notions and fundamental laws of technical mechanics (statics, kinematics, kinetics). They can estimate the dimension of mechanical figures. They are able to calculate simple motion processes in technical systems from predominant forces, and vice versa are able to define from given motions the necessary forces and elements. They are capable of setting up simulation models based on fundamental laws for mechanical systems and can predict motion processes quantitatively based on those models. |
Summary | - Statics - One dimensional kinematics - Kinematics of gyration - Newton axiom - Friction - Calculus of motional processes - Work; Power; Energy - Rotation - Free undamped and damped oscillation - Forced oscillation und resonance |
Previous knowledge | Infinitesimal calculus (can be attended parallel to this course), simulation program Vensim, Physics basics |
Performance assessment displaced module | Written module test |
Date | 26.10.2007 |
Teaching and learning methods: | Courses with interspersed examples and exercises as well as exercise lessons for independent work on the exercises (with and without mentoring). Independent processing of applied knowledge in examples with practical exercises in self-study. Application of simulation software for dynamic systems (VENSIM) in order to deepen the aquired knowledge. |
The mechanics module is the basis for further technical / natural scientific modules. It is recommended that this module be completed in 2nd semester. |
