The professional lives of engineers, computer scientists and data scientists are characterized by written communication. The two writing competences (basic competence writing and advanced writing) should enable you to deal professionally with texts and the formal requirements of texts in German and English. This ranges from written project communication (e-mails, minutes) to technical reports (project completion reports) for a specific client or essays for a wider public. The basic competence focuses on project communication and introduces the writing of reports.

      Learning outcomes

Organizing writing The writing processes are planned individually or collaboratively, depending on the form. The digital tools used (especially in collaborative writing) are chosen appropriately. Students overcome writing crises with the appropriate technology for them. In addition, students evaluate the texts of other students according to a list of criteria and to give feedback.

Structuring The texts are structured according to the requirements of the text type or, if possible, the discipline. The students write minutes, e-mails and smaller texts in German and English.

Formulating The texts are coherent and are written according to conventions or context and, if possible, using appropriate terminology. If possible, students work with sources (following academic style sheets). Students gain initial experience with the language of science in German and English.

Editing, proof-reading and handing in A finished text is characterized by clear coherence and cohesion (logic, comprehensibility) and is linguistically correct (spelling, punctuation) and typographically reader-friendly.
