Welcome to the FHNW University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland!

Interested in joining the "Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) - Profile Geomatics" program in Switzerland? This page provides essential information to help international students getting started.

Language requirements

Proficiency in English at level B2 or preferably C1 is required for admission. German is helpful but not required.

Translation Requirements for Application Documents

The application documents must be submitted in either German or English. Translations from other languages require certification. Original documents should be submitted in addition.

Semester fee
  • Students from EU/EFTA countries: CHF 1’000 per semester
  • Students from third countries: CHF 5’000 per semester
Visa and Residence Permit

International students from non-EU/EFTA countries may require a visa and/or residence permit to study in Switzerland. Additionally, you are required by the immigration authorities to submit proof of sufficient financial means for your study period. For more information on visa requirements and application procedures, please check with the Swiss Embassy or Consulate in your country.

Grants and Loans

Health insurance

Swiss law requires that everyone staying in Switzerland for three months or more has adequate medical and accident insurance. You should ensure you have valid medical coverage before you leave home. For further information see FOPH (Federal Office of Public Health).

Accommodation

FHNW does not provide accommodation assistance. There are numerous options and websites where you can find apartments and shared living spaces. More information at: Accommodation - study in switzerland+

Application deadline
  • For autumn/fall semester (semester begins calendar week 38): end of April of the same year
  • For spring semester (semester begins calendar week 8): end of October of the previous year
