Excellent lecturers and an inspiring international community
We are convinced that our community on the Basel Campus of Music is a highly inspiring place for the artistic and musical development of young talents. Top-class lecturers support and guide students according to their individual needs. In our institutes, we teach and research music from different eras and genres, develop traditions further, and constantly create something new. Would you like to become part of our community?
Here, students acquire artistic, pedagogical, and theoretical skills for their future careers as musicians. Around 200 lecturers who are active in the international concert scene are committed to this goal. Welcome to Basel, a cultural hotspot!
The programmes offered by the Basel Academy of Music are primarily locatedin its three institutes. However, there are interdisciplinary projects and master's programmes that are open to students from all institutes.

A wide range of courses, from music education to solo performance, from contemporary or electronic music to scene and movement: diversity in teaching and research is a hallmark of the Institut Klassik.

Precollege
Young talents can prepare specifically for admission to a Music Academy with us. At the interface between University and music school, the PreCollege at the Basel Academy offers students tailor-made support in their respective main instrumental, vocal or composition subjects, always in conjunction with lessons in ear training and music theory.

Appearance and performance
In-house concert halls, performance spaces, and a jazz club offer students numerous opportunities to perform. The university's network of cultural institutions in Basel further expands the range of opportunities available. We are committed to ensuring that our students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of concert formats during their studies. All concerts are published in the Basel Music Academy's calendar of events.

Our offerings
The Vera Oeri Library at the Musik-Akademie Basel and Basel Academy of Music FHNW houses Switzerland's largest collection of music and, in addition to a copy center, coworking space, and music box (a media library for children and young people), offers around 60 workspaces. The transparent building is named after its patron, Vera Oeri, and was opened in 2009.

Discover Basel Academy of Music
History & People
The Basel Academy of Music continues the tradition of the Musik-Akademie Basel. For almost 160 years, it has been a leading centre of excellence for musical education at all levels. Its current offerings include broad-based and talent promotion, the PreCollege, music studies, music research and continuing education for music teachers.
Since 2008, the university department, comprising the institutes Klassik, Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and Jazz, has been part of theUniversity of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland FHNW. A cooperation agreement between the university of applied sciences and the Musik-Akademie governs the collaboration.
Our partnership with the Musik-Akademie Basel and its long-standing patrons allows us to continually launch innovative projects in teaching, researchand the ongoing optimisation of our infrastructure.
