Selected programmes for musicians and instrumental and vocal teachers: this is continuing education at the Basel Academy of Music.

Basel Academy of Music offers a range of further education courses aimed at professional musicians and instrument/singing teachers. Course content is use-inspired and is therefore closely matched to the requirements of current professional practice.

We are happy to accept registrations from music school teachers across all cantons; the registration link is provided on every continuing professional development page. For music school teachers employed in the cantons of Basel-Landschaft and Aargau, continuing educational courses and conferences in music pedagogy are subsidised. You can find information on funding here.

Continuing Education at Academy of Music

Das umfangreichste Angebot stammt vom Institut Klassik. Die meisten musikpädagogischen Kurse beschränken sich jedoch nicht auf eine Tätigkeit mit "klassischer" Herkunft, sie sind offen für alle Musikpädagoginnen und -pädagogen unabhängig vom Background. Weitere Interessierte dürfen eine Teilnahme jederzeit anfragen.

1-to-1 lessons: Our coaching programme for instrumental and vocal teachers provides you with a professional, external perspective from experienced specialists.

At Institut Klassik

Piano playing in instrumental, vocal or classroom lessons

1-to-1 lessons: In this continuing education course, music teachers develop their piano-playing skills for use in instrumental, vocal or classroom lessons.

CAS/DAS - Start in September

Final registration date 31.5.

In Focus

With a DAS in wind orchestra conducting, you will be able to conduct wind orchestras, wind ensembles and brass ensembles at various levels (amateur, semi-professional and professional ensembles).

In this education course, you will specifically deepen your skills in the following areas:

Score study and musical analysis
Conducting technique and expression
Planning and designing rehearsals and concert programmes

DAS Wind Orchestra Conducting

Develop your conducting technique to interpret complex scores, specifically promote professional and amateur ensembles, and inspire your audience with a suitable programme selection.

Structure of the further education

Tageskurse	1 CP

Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS)	12 CP
Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS)	30 CP: CAS Basis 12 CP CAS Aufbau 12 CP Prüfungsmodul 6 CP

Die Weiterbildungskurse umfassen in der Regel zwischen 8 und 20 Lektionen Unterricht und werden an einem oder mehreren Terminen mit unterschiedlichen Zeitabständen angeboten.
Die CAS Zertifikatslehrgänge dauern in der Regel zwei Semester.
DAS Zertifikatslehrgänge dauern in der Regel vier Semester und setzen sich jeweils aus einem CAS Basis und CAS Aufbau sowie einem Prüfungsmodul zusammen. Der CAS Basis kann auch allein ohne weiterführende CAS Studien belegt werden.

Generally speaking, further education courses and programmes comprise between 8 and 20 lessons and are offered different types of time intervals.
The Certificate of Advanced Studies programmes are usually spread over two semesters.
The Diploma of Advanced Studies programmes are spread over four semesters and comprise CAS1 and CAS2 modules, as well as an exam module. A CAS1 module may also be taken on its own.

Information on financing

For Music-Pedagogic-Courses (in German)

Für Musikschullehrpersonen mit einer Anstellung im Kanton Basel-Landschaft übernimmt der Kanton Basel-Landschaft 90% des Kursgeldes und maximal CHF 800,- pro Kalenderjahr (gilt nicht für CAS/DAS). Die Hochschule für Musik Basel FHNW/Musik-Akademie Basel stellt nur den Restbetrag in Rechnung.

Für Lehrer:innen mit einer Anstellung an einer Musikschule des Kantons Aargau werden die Kurskosten vollumfänglich vom Kanton Aargau übernommen (gilt nicht für CAS/DAS).

Für Auskünfte betreffend Finanzierungsbeiträgen für CAS/DAS Ausbildungen wenden sich die Teilnehmenden bitte direkt an ihre Schulleitungen.
Ebenfalls Musikschullehrpersonen aus anderen Kantonen informieren sich über eventuelle Finanzierungsbeiträge für das Weiterbildungsangebot bitte direkt bei ihren Schulleitungen.
