Digital Product Selection for Structure borne Sound and Vibration Isolation, FHNW School of Computer Science

School of Computer Science

The project develops a digital assistant that helps planning professionals select suitable solutions for structure-borne sound insulation and vibration protection.

Testimonial

Selecting suitable products for structure borne sound insulation and vibration protection is a challenging task for many planning professionals. While demand for reliable solutions in this domain continues to grow, existing selection tools often require deep specialist knowledge. As a result, technically proficient but non specialised users—such as architects, civil engineers, and HVAC planners—frequently struggle to make validated product choices.

In this project, HBT ISOL AG and FHNW jointly develop a new concept for digital, validated product selection that addresses this gap. The goal is an interactive assistant that translates complex technical models, parameters, and dependencies into a guided, visually supported user interaction, enabling correct and transparent product recommendations without requiring expert level knowledge.

The project investigates how technical information can be structured and communicated in a way that supports informed decision making. In addition, it explores the potential role of explainable artificial intelligence (XAI)—for example, to support recommendation generation or to plausibly validate user inputs.

The project lays the foundation for an innovative digital assistance system that reduces consulting effort, simplifies planning and customer processes, and opens up new market opportunities in the construction and building technology sector.
