Christoph Haffter

Researcher in Philosophy of Music


Dr. Christoph Haffter is post-doctoral researcher at the Reserach Focus Philosophy of Music at University of Basel and Hochschule für Musik Basel FHNW. He has studied philosophy and musicology at the University of Basel, the Université Paris 8 (Vincennes-St.Denis) and the Humboldt University of Berlin, where he obtained his master's degree in philosophy. He was a member of the eikones Graduate School of the University of Basel, where he received his PhD in Philosophy in 2022. The PhD is entitled "Musikalischer Materialismus. Eine Philosophie der zeitgenössischen Musik" and has been published open-access at Velbrück Wissenschaft in 2023. In 2018, he was Visiting Scholar at Columbia University in New York. From 2019-2022, he was assistant to Prof. Emmanuel Alloa at the Philosophy Department of the University of Fribourg. He was editor of the music journal Dissonance and works as a music critic for magazines and radios. He is co-editor of the online music journal www.partisan-notes.com.
