Curriculum Vitae

Thomas Brunmayr studied with Wilfried Brandstötter at the Anton Bruckner Private University Linz and played in the Bruckner Orchestra Linz during his studies and since 2010 as a permanent substitute at the Frankfurt Opera. Since the 2012/13 season, he has been a tuba player in the Stuttgart State Orchestra, the house orchestra of the Stuttgart State Opera, under GMD Sylvain Cambreling and GMD Cornelius Meister. He has made numerous guest appearances, including with the orchestra of the Bavarian State Opera Munich, the Munich Philharmonic, the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Düsseldorf Symphony. Frequent substitution duties have led to engagements with renowned orchestras, including: Munich Philharmonic, Bavarian State Opera Munich, SWR Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart, State Theatre Nuremberg, Düsseldorf Symphony, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hanover, BR Munich Radio Orchestra, Stuttgart Philharmonic.

Thomas Brunmayr has performed under the direction of, among others, Valery Gergiev, Kirill Petrenko, Herbert Blomsted, Christoph Eschenbach, Marek Janowski, Semyon Bychkov, Jonathan Nott and has participated in prestigious festivals such as the BBC Proms, Baden-Baden Pentecostal Festival, Vienna and Berlin Festival Weeks, or the Ludwigsburg Festival. From 2014-2018 he was lecturer for contrabass tuba at the Stuttgart College of Music and since 2019 Professor for Tuba and Brass Chamber Music at the College of Music Freiburg im Breisgau. Since September 2021, he has been teaching at the Basel Academy of Music.
