ERC feeling in Switzerland

Our Rover Thommen during the Hero Challenge

After 2 Months of intensive planning, our FHNW Rover-Träff finally took place at our Campus in Windisch. The purpose of the competition was to test the weak spots of our Rover Thommen in a competition-like environment. FroST and ERIG, the Rover Teams from the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences and TU Braunschweig, joined us to compete in a small competition and enjoy a great time together before, during and after the competition. During the competition, the teams had to solve four different Tasks. In the first task, the teams needed to search for coins in a pile of sand. During the Hero Challenge, the second task, the teams had to build a tower of delicious Hero Ravioli cans. The Maintenance task of the ERC inspired the third task. In the last task, the teams had to drive through a parkour with different obstacles to test the mobility and speed of the Rovers. The competition was ruled by three judges, one from each team. During the competition, the teams had to deal with problems like bad connections, significant latency and broken parts. Because of these problems, the teams achieved some new lessons learned. During the competition, the fraternity of the FHNW School of Engineering (Fachschaft Technik) pleased the visitors and team members with hotdogs and drinks. After the event, the teams sat together and ate some delicous meat and grilled cheese from the Metzgerei Lüthi, our local butcher shop. The next day, the teams enjoyed some more time together and went on a boat ride on the Aare River. After the boat ride, the FHNW Rover Team showed the two German teams some Swiss culture and served them a tasty Fondue. Afterwards, the german teams travelled back home.

The Organization Committee wants to thank Einsiedler Bier, Hero, Lehmann Bäckerei und Lüthi Metzgerei for the delicious food they gave us and Maxon for the exciting presentation of their Space programm. Another big thanks goes to Arne Wahlen, the Head of the Mechanical Programm, who immensely helped and supported the Rover-Träff.
