Internship
HGK Basel students who would like to undertake an internship abroad.
Students who want to gain relevant work experience through an internship abroad can apply to the International Office HGK for financial support via the Swiss‑European Mobility Programme (SEMP).
Students may take part in an internship either during or immediately after their studies. To qualify for funding, the placement must last between 60 days and 12 months. Applicants must arrange the internship themselves and only apply for funding after securing a position. Funding applications must be submitted at least two weeks before the internship begins. In the case of internships after graduation, the application submission and the signature of the mandatory documents must take place before the graduation date.
The SEMP grant provides approximately CHF 440 per month for internships within Europe and CHF 500 per month for those outside Europe. The amount is paid in a single instalment either before or shortly after the internship starts (provided that all the required paperwork has been correctly submitted).
If you are enrolled at HGK Basel and plan an overseas internship that meets these criteria, contact the International Office at international.hgk@fhnw.ch for more details and to obtain the Mobility‑Online application link. Applications are accepted throughout the year.
A note on insurance: The FHNW’s business liability insurance does not extend to internships abroad. Therefore, the host organization must supply liability coverage for any third‑party claims. It is the student’s responsibility to confirm that appropriate insurance is in place before traveling abroad. At a minimum, we strongly advise obtaining a private liability policy together with suitable travel insurance.
Additional details on insurance requirements can be found here: Insurance and pensions | FHNW
