Asset and Liability Management Talk: A regulator’s view on Japanese banking sector

The Japanese banking sector faces structural challenges driven by an aging society, changes from a low for long interest rate environment, digitalization of finance, and climate-related financial risks. How does a bank regulator of Japan see these issues? The speaker will talk about implication to risk management and relevant public policies.

Speaker

Minoru Aosaki is the Director of the International Affairs Office at the Financial Services Agency of Japan (JFSA). With extensive expertise in global financial stability, he plays a pivotal role in shaping international regulatory policy.

In addition to his leadership at the JFSA, Mr. Aosaki has been playing active roles within the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, including as a member of the Policy and Standards Group since 2019 and the Chair of the Liquidity Expert Group since 2021. Throughout his career at the JFSA, he has served in key positions with the focus on the development and implementation of international prudential standards.

Mr. Aosaki holds a Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) from Hitotsubashi University and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Cornell Law School. He has also contributed to academic exchange as a Visiting Fellow at Stanford University.
