Innovative, digital, sustainable – ImpactLab FHNW

The FHNW School of Business has launched ImpactLab FHNW: the first incubator of the FHNW aiming to support the transition of our students’ business ideas into innovative and impactful start-ups.

Numerous students at the FHNW School of Business are looking forward to kick-starting their business ideas, and our lecturers and researchers have ample expertise when it comes to founding and running companies as well as designing and implementing digital information systems. Furthermore, the practice-oriented nature of FHNW provides access to national and international business networks.

Originating from a joint effort between the Master of Science in Business Information Systems and the Institute of Management, the new ImpactLab FHNW aims to promote innovation and entrepreneurship at FHNW and, in turn, at boosting a start-up culture in Northwestern Switzerland.

First projects underway

The ImpactLab FHNW offers individual coaching, matchmaking with industry and domain experts as well as events that open networking possibilities with players of our young but ever increasing innovation ecosystem. In addition, training modules on various topics are offered in which students gain know-how, ranging from the creation of business models to pitching ideas to potential investors.

As of January 2021, the ImpactLab FHNW has entered a 6-month pilot phase in which six of the most promising projects from FHNW students were selected for support:

  • “Privacy as a service” – renting out hotel rooms on an hourly basis for people require privacy for work or meetings.
  • NutriAssist – providing people with AI-generated meal plans based on their tastes and needs in nutrients.
  • Career path finder – young people can develop their own career paths based on their interests and what similar profiles have done.
  • Making science more accessible – providing visualisation for scientific publications to make them easier to understand.
  • Software solution to support non-profit organisations.
  • Spontastic – your platform to book last-minute leisure activities from 48 hours before the event.
