Learn to integrate generative AI into products, services and processes in a way that makes the interaction between humans and AI deliberate, efficient and low-risk. Choose a suitable interaction architecture and AI architecture, and defend your decisions to management and stakeholders, working on a real project from your own organisation.

At a glance
- Foundations: failure patterns of AI initiatives in companies, traditional versus generative AI approaches, how AI works and the resulting risks and opportunities, etc.
- Human-AI Interaction: human-AI teaming, interaction architecture, conversational AI, security, CRM concepts for AI, etc.
- Strategy, Architecture & Tools: scoping, requirements, evaluation, context architecture, AI architecture, agents, explainable AI, etc.
- Validation, Operationalization & Synthesis: end-to-end value chains, EU AI Act, change management, defending your strategy.
Aims & benefits
Around 95 percent of AI initiatives in companies fail, usually not because of the technology, but because of the way AI is embedded in products, processes and interactions. In this CAS, you learn to design AI initiatives, deliberately shape the interaction between humans and AI, choose a suitable interaction and AI architecture, and defend your decisions to stakeholders with sound arguments.
Target audience
You make decisions about products, processes or services as a product manager, business analyst, requirements engineer, system or product designer, UX professional or in a similar role. You do not write code yourself.
Structure & programme contents
Theory is directly applied in practice to your own project. All content is combined with exercises, workshops or peer feedback. Learning groups support you between course days, and an accountability partner from your cohort keeps you on track even after the CAS.
The programme is divided into four topic blocks:
- Foundations (2 days)
- Human-AI Interaction Design (3 days)
- Strategy, Architecture & Tools (2 days)
- Validation, Operationalization & Synthesis (3 days
Getting started via the SAS path
The first two course days are also offered separately as the SAS "Foundations of Applied AI & Human-AI Interaction" (2 ECTS). The SAS is a compact introduction and, if you later take the CAS, it can be credited towards it following the standard FHNW procedure.
Lecturers
The lecturers come from industry and applied research. This means you not only gain sound knowledge, but also learn which approaches and architectures have actually proven themselves in real-world projects.
Requirements & admission
Admission
- You have an affinity for IT/computer science and knowledge of product or process development. Prior knowledge of AI or human-computer interaction is welcome but not required.
- You have a degree from a recognised university, university of applied sciences, or technical university, plus at least two years of professional experience after graduation or equivalent. Applicants without a university degree may be admitted "sur dossier" if they can demonstrate equivalent higher education and relevant professional experience.
Since the CAS is taught in English, we expect language skills at a level sufficient to follow lectures, take part in discussions and complete written work in English.
Maximum number of participants: 20 (the course runs with a minimum of 10 participants).
