Välkommen till Linköpings universitet

Välkommen till Linköpings universitet

For more than 10 years, there has been a close cooperation between the University of Linköping (LiU) in Sweden and the School of Life Sciences FHNW (HLS). Several HLS lecturers are in regular contact with lecturers at LiU, which has already led to numerous student exchanges. Whether for a degree course, a BSc or MSc thesis or a double degree, Linköping University seems to attract HLS students. Why is this?

LiU is one of the best universities in Sweden and is located in the city of the same name. The university has 32'000 students spread over 4 campuses. The city of Linköping is big enough to call itself big, but small enough to enjoy the friendliness and character of a village. All students agree that the bicycle is the best way to get from A to B!

> Life in Linköping

Life on campus and in the lab is very pleasant. There is a relaxed but professional atmosphere and students are highly motivated.

"I was struck by how open and supportive the university staff were. I felt very welcome in the team right from the start and was always able to contribute my ideas".
Alain Dietschy, Master's thesis at LiU 2017/2018

Our students are not only attracted by the hospitality and open-mindedness of the Swedes but also by the exciting projects and the extremely positive feedback from HLS students who have already studied at LiU.

> Life on Campus

In summer the days are long and the nights are short while in winter you have to get used to the lack of daylight. A somewhat strange situation for us Central Europeans and therefore all the more fascinating. But no matter what time of year, LiU offers an extensive program for its students and especially for the international community. There are numerous initiatives and activities where students can pursue their interests and make contact with local and international colleagues. Friendships that sometimes last a lifetime!

> Welcome activities for international students

"The numerous social events and new contacts helped to make the dark Swedish autumn cheerful."
Michaela Maintz, Bachelor's thesis at LiU 2018

A few insider tips from HLS students:

  • Start looking for accommodation early and register here: www.studentbostader.se
  • Use a bicycle to get around
  • Even in summer take long trousers and a warm sweater with you
  • You don’t need to organise cash - payment in Sweden is by card
  • Take advantage of the various programs and initiatives for international students
  • Plan at least one trip to Stockholm. Only an hour and a half train ride from Linköping!
  • Be sure to allow time for travel at the end of your stay

What are you waiting for...? Off to Sweden!
