English courses at the FHNW School of Life Sciences: networking, internationalisation and greater confidence in English
English is the language of science and research – and at the FHNW School of Life Sciences (HLS), it plays a pivotal role. But not everyone feels fully confident communicating in English. To provide targeted support, Andrew Brown, English lecturer at the HLS, offers two specially tailored English courses:
- For incoming exchange students: Here, students can improve their language skills in a relaxed atmosphere. The course helps them integrate into university life, engage with peers and become more accomplished in academic work in English.
- For HLS and HABG staff: Staff have the opportunity to strengthen their professional, academic and scientific English. Whether meetings, emails or technical discussions – the course provides practical language skills that can be immediately applied.
These courses offer much more than just language training. They foster intercultural skills, support collaboration in international teams and strengthen internal networking at the HLS. For students, this means meaningful support during their time at the school; for staff, it brings concrete improvements and long-term confidence in English communication.
This initiative is an important part of the school’s internationalisation efforts – a step toward a more open, connected and globally engaged HLS. A great opportunity to break down language barriers, make new connections and learn together!
Contact Andrew Brown for more details on these courses, and for any other English language support you need at the HLS.
Basel is at the heart of the global life sciences industry, and at the HLS we play a crucial role in this dynamic sector. Whether as students, faculty or staff, being able to communicate effectively in English is key to engaging with the international community and making a positive impact.
