Curriculum Vitae

The percussionist, cimbalist and glass harmonica player Matthias Würsch completed his studies at the Basel Music Academy with a soloist's diploma and continued his training with Jean-Pierre Drouet in Paris. He is a regular guest performer with contemporary music ensembles such as Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Contrechamps and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. He is a permanent member of the group The B.E.A.M. and a freelance member of Ensemble Phoenix Basel and Concertino Basel. He has appeared as a soloist at numerous festivals, on radio and television in Switzerland and abroad. His special interest in the glass harmonica and the Hungarian cimbalom has led him to work with orchestras such as the Orchestre National de France, the NDR Radio Orchestra, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the SWR Baden-Baden and Freiburg Symphony Orchestra, the HR, Bayerischer Rundfunk and the Orchestre de Paris under conductors such as Sylvain Cambreling, Michael Gielen, Lorin Maazel, Semyon Bychkow and Charles Dutoit. Matthias Würsch is the soloist in numerous world premières by Heinz Holliger, Vinko Globokar, Henry Dutilleux and others. In 1996 he was honoured with the Werkpreis für Musik des Kantons Basel-Landschaft. In addition to his concert activities, Matthias Würsch also devotes himself intensively to theatrical and linguistic acrobatic means of expression.
