Initialization Project: New Landscapes of Knowledge and Research

Design Anthropology (initiating interinstitutional doctoral structures HGK FHNW – G3S UniBas), designXsciences (initiating research across design, engineering sciences, life sciences, social sciences), metaLAB (at) Basel (founded in 2024 as part of the international metaLAB community)

The initialization project aims at establishing and expanding interwoven knowledge and research landscapes through three areas: studies, research, labs. The project is conceived as an inter-institutional cooperations with local, national, and international scientific and cultural institutions. Forward-looking, interdisciplinary theoretical, methodological, and pedagogical approaches are particularly relevant in the process of developing structures.
In the light of ongoing changes in research in the sciences (inter- and transdisciplinarity, multimodality, technologies, research design, translational science, and applied research), the Academy of Art and Design FHNW offers competencies in the theoretical, methodological, and practical fields that contribute to shaping societal, environmental, technological transformations in a collective effort with cooperation partners in order to grapple with questions regarding futures with a focus on health and longevity as the areas of urgency identified. Thereby, collaborations between design, technology, life sciences at the FHNW, expanding and integrating further institutions and relevant fields of research and study regard multiple scales and spaces (body, community, society, interfaces, devices, spaces, extended environments).
