12. May 2025

Dr. Sophie Werner has successfully completed her PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Basel, under the joint supervision of Prof. Dr. Jörg Huwyler (Uni Basel) and Prof. Dr. Laura Suter-Dick (FHNW).

Sophie’s PhD thesis was funded by SCAHT (https://www.scaht.org)  and focused on neurotoxicity of solvents in the context of human risk assessment. She utilized several cell culture systems and an impressive amount of analytic and in silico methods to investigate metabolism and toxicity of glycol ethers.  For her work, she was awarded the distinction of Dr. rer nat.

The FHNW’s Cell Biology and In Vitro Toxicology group is very proud of Sophie’s accomplishments and wants to also thank colleagues especially Timm Hettich and Andy Büttler from the analytical team for their support.

Congratulations, Sophie!
