Yasemin Özkan’s SEMP internship

17. August 2026

I am excited to share that I have joined the School of Life Sciences at Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz FHNW, where I work in Prof. Abdullah Kahraman’s laboratory in the Department of Chemistry and Bioanalytics.

My project focuses on diagnosing cancer patients using liquid biopsy tests. Specifically, I am building an automated workflow to process cell-free RNA data across five major cancer types and healthy controls.

Our goal is to identify unique alternative splicing patterns in blood samples. We will use these distinct biological patterns to train machine learning models that can help detect and classify different cancers from a simple blood test.

It is a challenging and rewarding opportunity within computational oncology. I look forward to growing in this role and contributing to innovative research at FHNW!
