Dr. Kambiz Shafei

Kambiz Shafei ist Fotograf, Designer und Forscher und lebt in Basel. Nach seinem Informatikstudium im Iran studierte er visuelle Kommunikation an der HGK Basel, wo er heute als Dozent für visuelle Kommunikation und digitale Räume tätig ist. 2010 gründete er das Studio Shafei in Basel, das in verschiedenen Bereichen der visuellen Kommunikation arbeitet und eng mit Kulturinstitutionen, Künstlern und Architekten zusammenarbeitet.

Shafeis Fotografie und Forschung konzentrieren sich auf architektonische Materialpräsenzen in Bildern. 2024 erhielt er seinen Doktortitel von der Kunstuniversität Linz, Österreich, für sein praxisbasiertes Projekt «New Material Presences in Photography: How Images and Architecture Construct and Deconstruct One Another».

Seit 2025 ist er der Herausgeber der Publikationsreihe The Irregular Paper.
