Kambiz Shafei is an Iranian designer, photographer and researcher based in Basel, Switzerland. After studying Mathematics and Computer Sciences in Iran, he studied Visual Communication at the Institute IDCE where he is a lecturer for photography since 2014.
His research focuses on material presences in images and in 2024 he received his doctorate from the Kunstuniversität Linz for his practice-based project titled “New Material Presences in Photography: How Images and Architecture Construct and Deconstruct One Another”.
In 2010 he founded his studio in Basel working closely with cultural institutions, artists and architects.
